Panagia

Panagia (Greek: Παναγία) is one of the most revered titles of the Virgin Mary in Greek Orthodox Christianity, meaning “All-Holy.” She is honored as the mother of Jesus Christ and a symbol of purity, compassion, protection, and maternal love. Throughout Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean, countless churches, monasteries, icons, and villages bear her name, reflecting her deep spiritual and cultural significance. Devotion to the Panagia is especially strong during major feasts such as the Dormition of the Theotokos on August 15, one of the most important religious celebrations in Greece.
